About Locust Grove Primary School
The Orange County School Board considered building a new elementary school to accommodate the growth at the east end of the county in 1988. Thomas Short, the first principal of Locust Grove Elementary School, assisted in carrying out the vision concerning the needs of the community and worked with the school board and several committees which established objectives, philosophy and physical characteristics of the new facility. In the fall of 1990, Locust Grove Elementary School opened. In the fall of 2011, Locust Grove Elementary School became Locust Grove Primary School under the principalship of Sherri McGhee, due to continued growth at the east end of the county.
Locust Grove Primary School is located four and one-half miles northeast of the intersection of Routes 20 and 522. It currently houses kindergarten through second grades, and currently serves approximately 440 students.
